I’ve been meaning to start doing occasional personal blogging here. Now I’ve got something to post!
At the beginning of the year, I sent in my application to Viable Paradise. That makes it sound easy, but it wasn’t–there was, of course, a lot of angst involved. The actual application isn’t difficult, and if you’re considering applying for next year, do it!
Then I waited for 6 months and change. That was more difficult in some ways, but time keeps on passing (and teaching last semester’s classes kept me more than busy).
And then, a couple of days ago, standing in a Lowe’s and poking at my phone while my partner searched for a pot in which to plant sweet potatoes…I got an email. The subject line read Your application to Viable Paradise 20. I didn’t even think about waiting for him to get back for moral support, I just tapped it.
And of course, my phone did that great thing where it decides it’s not super interested in loading the actual content of an email. Seriously, my heart was pounding as I waited and waited and waited. I’m sure another 6 months passed right there!
Anyway, as you’ve guessed it was an acceptance. (However, the Health and Safety Committee recommends that next time I open that kind of email, I sit down.) I’m going to Viable Paradise in Martha’s Vineyard, which lies in a distant land known as Massachusetts.
VPers are already finding each other online and generally being pretty great. I’m really looking forward to meeting my classmates in person. And I should also share my appreciation of all the VPers from previous years, including old friends and a bunch of new ones, who have been sending their cautionary tales support and enthusiasm.
It’s adventure time!
